NER electric autocar in NYMR Launch
The 1903 NER Electric Autocar Trust was formally launched during the North Yorkshire Moors Railway's North Eastern Railway 150 years celebration during the weekend of 19th-20th June. The York built autocar, No. 3170 (the world's first of its' type) had been cosmetically restored to NER livery on an end and a side at its' Embsay home, giving visitors a 'before and after' impression. Railway historians found this particularly useful as they were able to identify detail and liveries spanning 100 years on the unrestored side. The autocar was pulled in and out of Pickering station between service trains by the Middleton Railway's Manning Wardle steam locomotive, 'Matthew Murray. Although appearing much older it was built in Leeds just a few months after the autocar.
Visitors were allowed within the vehicle and the trustees manning photographic displays were pleasantly surprised at the interest from the general public. Fund raising has started with the publication of a history leaflet. Since then the trustees have put together an initial fundraising plan. Body side planks can be sponsored for £18.00 each, windows at £88.00 each and seat sponsors enjoy special recognition. For £150 the sponsor's name will be on a plaque by the seat. With the gift aid scheme, any such donations will make a large contribution to the restoration effort.
An appreciation certificate will acknowledge the kindness of donors and they will be kept informed of developments via an e mail newsletter.Donations please to Ian Douglas, 14 Meadow Way, Harrogate, HG1 3LG
